Questa è la nostra quarta edizione a Roma della Meisner Masterclass di 6 giorni dove si studieranno gli esercizi base della tecnica e che sarà condotta dall’insegnante americano ed esperto di Meisner, James Price, fondatore del The Acting Studio -New York.
Inoltre per la prima volta, offriamo anche un altro corso di livello avanzato per chi già conosce la tecnica e per approfondire il lavoro sulle scene e i monologhi.
Questa preziosa esperienza, oltre a far innamorare sempre più persone a questa pratica di esercizi, sta realizzando il sogno di tanti attori e attrici di vivere e studiare a New York!
E ora, ecco un riepilogo delle informazioni più importanti per capire come poter partecipare e come si svolgeranno le due masterclass:
INFORMAZIONI GENERALI
LUOGO: Accademia del Teatro Golden di Roma Via Taranto 36, (tra le fermate San Giovanni e Re di Roma della Metro A);
ALLOGGIO: I partecipanti provenienti da fuori Roma sono responsabili di assicurarsi l’alloggio;
LINGUA: Condotto in inglese (con traduzione simultanea dall’inglese all’italiano);
ATTESTATI: Al termine dei corsi verrà rilasciato un attestato di partecipazione;
REQUISITI DI ETÀ: da 18 anni in su;
AMMISSIONI:
- LIVELLO 1: aperto a tutti. Possono essere ammessi sia attori esperti o nuovi alla formazione Meisner, sia principianti nella recitazione;
- LIVELLO 2: avanzato, non per principianti. Richiede di aver frequentato Meisner Masterclass Level 1 o precedenti basi di formazione Meisner ritenute idonee.
LIVELLO 1 MEISNER MASTERCLASS TECNICA DI RECITAZIONE
DATE: 24-29 APRILE (6 giorni; lun-sab.);
POSTI LIMITATI: 32 studenti massimo;
ORARIO: 9:00-18:00; (include 1 ora di pausa pranzo; totale di 48 ore di lezione)
PROGRAMMA: Gli esercizi iniziali della tecnica Meisner passo dopo passo: a partire dall’esercizio della “repetition” e la sua evoluzione in 4 fasi, gli esercizi di improvvisazione e poi la loro applicazione finale al lavoro sulla scena;
PREPARAZIONE: Per rendere il lavoro più fluido ed efficace, le scene verranno assegnate diversi giorni prima dell’inizio del corso. Si dovrà averle memorizzate completamente e perfettamente per il primo giorno e secondo le istruzioni che verranno date. Verranno quindi messe in scena l’ultimo giorno applicando quanto appreso nei giorni precedenti;
BORSE DI STUDIO DI MERITO: Al termine del workshop di LIVELLO 1 verranno assegnate 6 borse di studio di merito da The Acting Studio di New York come segue:
- 2 borse di studio per 6 settimane di Acting Conservatory (valore di $ 2.700 ciascuna);
- 4 borse di studio a scelta fra: Intensivo Meisner estivo di 6 settimane (solo in estate; valore $ 680), oppure Introduzione di 10 settimane a Meisner – Tecnica di recitazione (valore $ 680);

LIVELLO 2 TECNICHE AVANZATE DI RECITAZIONE MEISNER
DATE: 2-6 MAGGIO (5 giorni; mar.-sab.);
POSTI LIMITATI: 16 studenti massimo;
ORARIO: 9:00-18:00; (include 1 ora di pausa pranzo; totale di 40 ore di lezione);
PROGRAMMA: Esercizi di improvvisazione, preparazione emotiva, approfondimento dell’analisi del copione, come rendere proprio il testo (approccio al monologo/analisi del discorso: scelta del punto di vista, dove trovarlo, particolarità e come fraseggiare il testo); la costruzione di un personaggio attraverso l’approccio fisico, vocale e del linguaggio.
PREPARAZIONE: Prima dell’inizio del corso verranno assegnati una scena e un monologo (da memorizzare perfettamente e preferibilmente in lingua inglese); – Per partecipare a questa classe, verrà effettuata una selezione tramite colloquio telefonico per verificare la conoscenza di base dello studente degli esercizi base della tecnica Meisner;
BORSE DI STUDIO: Al termine del workshop di LIVELLO 2 verranno assegnate 6 borse di studio di merito da The Acting Studio di New York come segue::

Il leggendario istruttore di recitazione americano Sanford Meisner e l’avvento del suo sistema di formazione attoriale è considerato uno spartiacque nella storia della formazione degli attori. Il maestro istruttore James Price, è stato protetto e amico personale del signor Meisner per quindici anni, ed è il direttore fondatore di The Acting Studio – New York dal 1983. Nel suo studio di New York City, dove dirige uno degli staff di più alto livello nella formazione degli attori, l’allenamento Meisner è di “prima generazione” e aderisce al sistema di esercizi che ha catapultato l’approccio Meisner al livello più alto nel mondo della formazione recitativa.
Recitare nel cinema e sul palcoscenico è raccontare una storia ed è compito dell’attore far credere al pubblico che cose reali stanno accadendo a persone reali. Come attore devi far credere al pubblico che sei la persona che la storia dice tu sia, e sperimentare realmente ciò che la storia dice che stai vivendo. Quindi, come fa un attore a svolgere un simile compito? Sviluppando la sua capacità di vivere in modo autentico, lavorando momento dopo momento a ciò che esiste in circostanze immaginarie. Sanford Meisner ha trascorso la sua vita a formulare una serie di esercizi, ciascuno basato su quello precedente, che aiutino un attore a sviluppare la propria capacità di fare proprio questo. Meisner credeva che se sei veramente un attore i tuoi istinti sono melodrammatici e devi allenarti a seguire quegli istinti. Credeva che l’ostacolo degli attori fosse l’intelletto e che il pensiero fosse il grande nemico della perfezione che separa un attore dai suoi istinti divini.

JAMES PRICE è il Direttore fondatore di The Acting Studio – New York e della Chelsea Repertory Company di New York, dove attualmente insegna. Mr. Price si è laureato in teatro all’Indiana University (1969-72) e ha lavorato come attore professionista AEA prima di frequentare e diplomarsi presso la Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre (1976), dove è tornato in seguito come membro del corpo insegnante sotto la guida del leggendario maestro istruttore Sanford Meisner. Mr. Price è grato per il suo rapporto di 15 anni con il signor Meisner, come suo protetto e amico personale.
Mr. Price ha anche insegnato recitazione al Trinity Rep Conservatory di Providence, RI, e a New York City alla NY Film Academy e allo Studio T. Schreiber. Ha lavorato come attore, regista, insegnante e produttore in teatri regionali, Off-Off Broadway, stagionali e universitari. This is our fourth edition in Rome of the 6-day Meisner Masterclass where you will study the basic exercises of the technique and that will be conducted by the New York teacher and Meisner expert, James Price, founder of The Acting Studio -New York.
Furthermore, for the first time, we also offer another advanced level course for those who already know the technique and to go deep in the work on the scenes and monologues.
This precious experience, as well as making more and more people fall in love with this exercise practice, is making the dream of many actors and actresses to live and study in New York come true!
And now, here it is a summary of the most important information about the two masterclasses and how to partecipate:
GENERIC INFORMATION
LOCATION: Golden Theater Academy in Rome, Via Taranto 36, (between San Giovanni and Re di Roma stops of Metro A line);
ACCOMMODATIONS: Out-of-town participants are responsible to secure lodging while in Rome on their own;
LANGUAGE: Conducted in English (simultaneous translation from English to Italian provided);
CERTIFICATES: At the end of the courses a certificate of participation will be granted;
AGE REQUIREMENT: 18 and up;
ADMISSIONS:
- LEVEL 1: Open to everyone. Both experienced actors new to the Meisner training as well as beginners in acting may be admitted;
- LEVEL 2: Not for beginners. Requires having taken Meisner Masterclass Level 1 or prior Meisner training basics deemed suitable.
LEVEL 1 MEISNER MASTERCLASS ACTING TECHNIQUE
DATES: 24-29 APRIL (6 days; Mon-Sat.);
LIMITED PLACES: 32 students maximum;
TIME: 9:00-18:00 (includes 1-hr lunch break; total of 48 hrs of instruction);
CURRICULUM: The step-by-step, beginning Meisner exercises: starting from basic word repetition and its 4-step evolution, through its application to the improvisation exercise, and then its final application to scene work;
PREPARATION: In order to facilitate having a smoother and more effective experience, scenes will be assigned several days prior the start of the course. You are expected to be fully and perfectly memorized upon your arrival the first day

Legendary American acting instructor, Sanford Meisner and the advent of his system of training actors is considered a watershed in the history of actor training. Master instructor James Price, was both a protege and personal friend to Mr. Meisner for fifteen years, and is the founding director of The Acting Studio – New York since 1983. At his studio in New York City where he heads one of the city’s most top tier staff in actor training, the Meisner training is ‘first generation’ and adheres to the system of exercises that catapulted the Meisner approach to the world’s top rung of actor training.
Acting in film and on the stage is storytelling and it is the actor’s job to make the audience believe real things are happening to real people. As an actor you are to make the audience believe you are person the story says you are, and to actually experience what the story says you are experiencing. So how does an actor accomplish such a task? By developing his/her ability to live truthfully, working moment by moment off what exists under imaginary circumstances.” Sanford Meisner spent his life formulating such a series of exercises, each building on a previous one, that helped an actor develop their ability to do just that. Meisner believed if you are truly an actor your instincts are theatrical and you must train yourself to follow those instincts. He believed the actors stumbling block was the intellect, and that thinking was the great enemy of perfection that separates an actor from his/her god-given instincts.

JAMES PRICE is the founding Director of The Acting Studio – New York and Chelsea Repertory Company in New York City where he currently teaches. Mr. Price majored in theatre at Indiana University (1969-72) and worked as a professional AEA actor before attending and graduating from the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theater (1976), to where he later returned as a member of the teaching staff under the tutelage of legendary master instructor Sanford Meisner. Mr. Price is grateful for his 15-year relationship with Mr. Meisner as his protege and personal friend.
Mr. Price has also taught acting at Trinity Rep Conservatory in Providence, RI, and in New York City at NY Film Academy and T. Schreiber Studio. He has worked as actor, director, teacher, and producer in regional, Off-Off Broadway, stock and college theatres. A task-master with 49 years of experience, he continues to actively train and practice with his fellow Studio associates in conjunction with Chelsea Repertory Company where he actively produces, acts and directs.
Mr. Price was senior Meisner instructor at the New York Film Academy from 2003-2013. He is featured in several books on acting, among them Stagecraft by Robert Blumenfeld, Legitimate Acting Coaches in New York by Larry Silverberg, and Acting Professionally by James Manos. He is currently re-entering the acting profession in conjunction with his teaching, coaching and producing duties.
